Travellers Aid is pleased to work with a number of Melbourne’s iconic events to make them more accessible and inclusive to everyone.

Get out your social diary and start adding the summer season’s accessible events. We’re pleased to confirm that Travellers Aid will be offering its access and inclusion services at the following major Melbourne events.

Friday (16 Feb), Saturday (17 Feb) and Sunday (18 Feb) 2024

Buggies will run between Fed Square (Birrarung Marr) to the other side of William Barak Bridge from 4pm to midnight.

Northcote Rise Festival
Sunday 18 February 2024

We are partnering with Northcote Rise and Yarra Trams to ensure people with mobility impairments can safely and confidently travel to the Festival by public transport. Shuttle buses will run from Westgarth Station and Northcote Station to High Street (and back). The shuttle buses operate between 11am and 7pm.

St Kilda Festival
Sunday 18 February 2024

We will provide a free buggy service at the vibrant St Kilda Festival, Sunday 18 Feb from 9am-11pm for patrons experiencing mobility impairments or challenges. The service will run between Union Street * to the Esplanade*.

* Union street tram stop 29 and St Kilda Junction tram stop 30 is provided on demand only.

Moomba

Moomba Festival
Thursday 7 – Monday 11 March 2024

We are partnering with Moomba to make the festival more accessible and inclusive. Our friendly volunteers and staff will provide communication and mobility assistance and or mobility equipment hire. You can also drop by the Travellers Aid marquee for a Hidden Disabilities Sunflower product

The service will be available to Show attendees during the following:

Melbourne International Flower and Garden Show

Melbourne International Flower and Garden Show 
Wednesday 20 – Sunday 24 March 2024

We will be providing an Access and Inclusion Service to encourage everyone to participate in one of Melbourne’s most iconic events. The service will provide support for people with disabilities or those experiencing mobility challenges to access the event and with getting around the venue if required.  

The service will be available to Show attendees during the following:

Southern Cross Station
Our team at Southern Cross Station will provide Connection Service Assistance at the station where guests can be met on the platform and transferred by buggy to Yarra Trams Stop – 1, (Bourke & Spencer Streets) to connect onto the 86 or 96 tram services which will take guest to Stop – 11 (Gertrude Street), the closest tram stop to the Main Entrance of the show and inside the event. This service can be booked online or by calling 03 9670 2072.

From this location we can offer trained Companion Service volunteers to support people with a mobility challenge or people who are unsure about using public transport to be with you all along the way to the entrance of the Flower and Garden Show. We can offer a free volunteer service inside the event as well to support people who hired a wheelchair from us and need some assistance to get around the event (maximum of 3 hours). This service requires pre-booking as well before the show commences. Please phone the service contact number – 0498 023 959 to find out more.

Yarra Trams Stop – 11          
Travellers Aid team members will be located at Yarra Trams Stop – 11 (Gertrude Street), where they can assist guests from the tram to a Buggy Connection Service which will take guest to the Main Entrance and back to the stop for their return trip.

Buggy Connection Service
A buggy Connection Service will operate from Yarra Trams Stop – 11 (Gertrude Street), to the Main Entrance and from the Accessible Parking Facility to the Main Entrance.

Accessible Car Park Support
Support will be provided at the accessible carpark where patrons will be assisted from their vehicle to the main entry by wheelchair or buggy transfer on arrival in the morning and again on their return to their car. For people who park in the accessible car park and have pre-booked (hired) a manual wheelchair, please let our staff there know and we can drop-off the equipment.

Wheelchair and Stroller Hire
A limited number of manual wheelchairs and strollers will be available for daily hire (terms and conditions apply). Travellers Aid’s hire facility will be located within the MIF&GS grounds next to the Information Booth at the main water fountain. You can book online or by calling 0498 023 959.  Onsite hire is subject to availability.

Melbourne International Flower and Garden Show

Formula 1 Australian Grand Prix
Thursday 21 – Sunday 24 March 2024

Partnering with Yarra Trams and the Formula 1 Australian Grand Prix, we will be assisting patrons to access this incredible event. 

 

Gate 1

  • Wheelchair support from Tram stop 130 Middle Park to the main entrance (Gate 1).
  • Wheelchair support from bus drop off point (Richardson Street) to Gate 1.

Gate 9
Wheelchair support from Tram stop 27 High (Lorne) Street to gate 9.

Gate 10
Wheelchair support from tram stop 30 (St Kilda Road Junction) to corner St Kilda Road and Fitzroy Street. From here;

  • Buggy Transfer Service from corner of St Kilda Road and Fitzroy Street to gate 10.
  • We will coordinate a seamless service with Wheelaway Accessible Shuttle service inside the precinct.
