In 2021 we were fortunate to receive funds from the City of Melbourne for a snazzy TrioBike.
The TrioBike has been used to assist passengers during public transport disruptions as well as during outings for residents of Rushall Park aged care facility.
Towards the end of last year, the team had a special request from Eliza who wanted to plan a ‘ladies day out’ for her Nana Lois. In past years Lois thoroughly enjoyed riding her bike, however living with dementia and reduced mobility meant that her days of feeling the wind through her hair were over… or so she thought.
Travellers Aid volunteer Gian equipped both Eliza and Louis with helmets and a horn and rode from MCEC to the Docklands, horns tooting along the way! Exhilarated and hungry from their ride, they headed off to lunch afterwards with Eliza’s mother and Lois’s daughter-in-law, Ingrid.
Lois said that when her granddaughter mentioned what she had organised she was “going to kill her” but after the experience she had changed her mind and was “going to kiss her”!
The smile and joy on Lois’s face afterwards was so lovely and we thank Lee and our fabulous volunteer Gian for organising the outing.
