Dear supporter,
The middle of the year invites reflection and anticipation. While the days shorten, Travellers Aid’s work doesn’t. And neither does the energy behind it.
I had the recent privilege of travelling to the United States for Travelers Aid International’s annual board meeting. While our service models differ, we both have people-first values. As we shared our unique perspectives and experiences, it was a fantastic reminder of the positive impact our work is having. These annual meetings lead to genuine exchanges that make us both proud and energised.
It’s a welcome feeling at a time when the world feels heavier for many. Geopolitical uncertainty, rising costs and everyday pressures can make even a simple trip feel daunting. This is exactly where Travellers Aid steps in. With the recent free travel periods more people are turning to public transport, some for the first time in many years. Our teams are ready in Melbourne’s CBD and at our regional hubs. They offer helpful information, Companion Services and a deep understanding of hidden disabilities. But something each of us can also offer this winter is patience and kindness. You never truly know the journey someone else is navigating.
As well as delivering our regular services, we’re delighted to confirm that Travellers Aid will be part of the upcoming Special Olympics. We’re currently working through the scope of our involvement, so stay tuned. We’ll share more as plans take shape.
With our official 110th anniversary arriving in July, we’ve also been busy planning celebratory events to honour the extraordinary people and partners who have contributed to Travellers Aid’s longevity. More than a milestone, it’s a moment to come together and recognise the collective effort that has kept this organisation thriving for over a century.
That’s one of the reasons we’ve turned the focus of our winter appeal onto our volunteers. Will you help us care for our carers?
