Back on a roll with our new mobility scooter – thanks to your support!

We recently said farewell to one of our mobility scooters “Alan” after it was stolen and later recovered with significant damage.

Unfortunately, it couldn’t be repaired. But thanks to the generosity of our Summer Appeal donors, we were able to purchase a brand-new scooter “Darcy”, ensuring our vital mobility equipment hire service continues without interruption.

Every week, travellers come through our Flinders Street and Southern Cross service hubs wanting to stay independent, visit favourite places, or simply get through the city without the physical strain that long distances can bring. The mobility equipment we hire includes wheelchairs, scooters, walkers, crutches, even strollers and helps make those journeys possible.

One story that reminds us why this service matters is Ingrid’s. You may have read about it in the article written by Amy Gardner from Seniors in Melbourne. Ingrid loved visiting Melbourne but found the long distances in the CBD increasingly exhausting. After reading an article about our mobility scooter hire, she decided to give it a try.

The feeling of independence and freedom Ingrid gained from that journey sparked so much confidence that she later bought her own scooter and is now exploring Melbourne on her own terms.

Stories like Ingrid’s are exactly why maintaining our equipment fleet is so important. And it’s why your donations truly matter. Every piece of mobility equipment we hire represents someone’s independence, confidence and connection to community.
